Following Prime Minister Trudeau’s official visit in Beijing, the Canada China Business Council stands in support of the Government of Canada and encourages it to continue actively seeking ways to begin negotiations for a comprehensive economic agreement with China. Canadian business needs secure market access to the world’s second-largest economy, an agreement that helps us compete fairly in China with foreign and Chinese companies, minimizes non-tariff barriers, and offers strong recourse for dispute settlement.
Canada and China have a long history, and businesses involved in China know that it is a long-term opportunity. While CCBC is not part of the negotiations, we have faith in our government to lead us toward the above goals. Our members also know well that negotiations with China are seldom resolved in a single visit, and we support the Prime Minister and the Government of Canada in their continued efforts.
